About this tool

Lines up two texts line by line and marks which lines were added, removed, or left untouched. Useful for comparing two drafts of a document, or finding when a config file started to differ. Both inputs are compared inside your browser and are never transmitted.

When to use it

  • —Pulling out only the changed sentences between two versions of a contract or proposal
  • —Finding why the same config file fails on one server but not another
  • —Checking that a translation has the same number of paragraphs as the source

Good to know

  • —Comparison happens per line, so changing a few words marks the whole line as changed.
  • —Trailing spaces and indentation differences also count as changes.
  • —Very long documents may make the browser appear to pause while it computes.
