About this tool
Generates as many version 4 UUIDs as you ask for. A UUID is a 36-character identifier with 122 random bits, used when you need labels that will not collide without a central authority handing out numbers. The randomness comes from the browser's cryptographic random generator.
When to use it
- —Pre-generating row identifiers to insert into a database
- —Filling test data with non-colliding order numbers or session IDs
- —Adding a unique suffix so filenames never clash
Good to know
- —v4 carries no timestamp, so sorting UUIDs does not put them in creation order. Keep a separate time column if you need ordering.
- —Collisions are effectively impossible in practice, but uniqueness is not mathematically guaranteed.
- —A UUID is hard to guess but is not an authentication mechanism. Do not gate access on knowing one.
