About this tool
Cuts the edges away by selecting the area to keep. Trimming the surroundings makes the subject larger and also lets you move to another aspect ratio, such as vertical. Files never leave the browser.
When to use it
- —Cropping horizontal footage to fit a vertical format
- —Keeping only the relevant window out of a screen recording
- —Removing unwanted elements that crept into the frame edges
Good to know
- —Cropping reduces resolution accordingly; a small crop enlarged later looks soft.
- —With a moving subject, a fixed crop can let them wander out of frame. Watch the whole clip before choosing the area.
- —Check that no bystander or readable document remains inside the crop.
