Set an open password (required) and a permissions password (optional) on your PDF with 256-bit AES encryption. All encryption happens entirely in your browser — your file and passwords are never sent to a server.

The permissions password controls changes such as printing and editing. Leave it blank to use the same value as the open password.

About this tool

When to use it

- —Preparing material for distribution with printing and copying disabled
- —Adding a baseline of protection to documents sent outside
Good to know
- —If you forget the password the document cannot be opened, and this tool cannot recover it. Store it safely and separately.
- —Send the password by a different channel than the document; putting it in the same email defeats the purpose.
- —Print and copy restrictions are only honored by software that chooses to respect them; they do not fully prevent leakage.
