About this tool

Adds color to a black-and-white photo using AI. It infers plausible colors from the shapes it recognizes, which helps bring an old family or archive photo back to life. The model runs in your browser and the photo is not sent anywhere.

When to use it

  • Seeing a parent's generation's monochrome photos in color
  • Making an old archive image feel more immediate in a presentation
  • Getting a sense of how an old product or building looked

Good to know

  • The colors are guesses, not records. Clothing and objects may come out the wrong color.
  • Common subjects such as sky, grass, and skin work well; unusually colored objects tend to land on flat browns and grays.
  • If used as historical material, always state that it is a colorized version.
