About this tool

Reads the text inside an image and extracts it as characters, so you can move content out of a photographed document or a screenshot without retyping. Recognition runs in the browser and the image is never transmitted.

When to use it

  • Photographing a printed notice and moving its text into a document
  • Copying an error message out of a screenshot to search for it
  • Grabbing text from a foreign-language sign to paste into a translator

Good to know

  • Blurry, tilted, or visually busy photos cut accuracy sharply; shoot flat-on and well lit.
  • Handwriting is far less reliable than printed type.
  • Look-alike characters such as digit 0 and letter O are often confused, so always verify amounts and account numbers.
