About this tool
Select the area to keep and cut away the rest, visually. Trimming the surroundings pulls the viewer's eye to the subject and reduces file size. Cropping happens inside the browser and the photo is never transmitted.
When to use it
- —Reframing a portrait to focus on the face instead of the background
- —Making a square crop to fit a profile picture requirement
- —Lifting just the relevant part of a screenshot for a document
Good to know
- —Cropped-away pixels cannot be recovered, so keep the original.
- —A small crop enlarged later looks soft. For print, check the cropped size is still big enough.
- —Check that no bystander's face or readable document remains inside the crop.
