About this tool
Analyzes audio to estimate tempo (BPM) and musical key. These are the two values you match when beat-mixing or playing along, so having them saves counting by ear. Analysis runs inside the browser.
When to use it
- —Checking whether two tracks share a tempo before mixing them
- —Finding the key so you can play along with a backing track
- —Putting a number on a practice track's speed
Good to know
- —These are estimates and go wrong most often on music with an unclear pulse or a changing tempo.
- —BPM commonly comes back at half or double the real value; if the number feels off, suspect a factor of two.
- —Key detection is reliable on harmonically simple music and less so where the music modulates or the harmony is dense.
