About this tool
Brings loudness to a standard level using the EBU R128 measure. Because it works from perceived loudness rather than a raw multiplier, it is better suited to balancing several files against each other. Processing finishes inside the browser.
When to use it
- —Making podcast episodes consistent in loudness
- —Meeting a broadcast or streaming platform's loudness target before delivery
- —Tidying a set of recordings whose levels are all over the place
Good to know
- —R128 is a broadcast standard; platforms use slightly different targets, so check the destination's spec.
- —Audio with an enormous gap between quiet and loud sections is not fixed by normalization alone.
- —If a recording was captured loud enough to distort, lowering it afterwards leaves the distortion in place.
