About this tool

Reduces file size by lowering the bitrate. Speech recordings stay intelligible at bitrates well below what music needs, so they can shrink a lot. Processing finishes inside the browser.

When to use it

  • —Getting a long meeting recording small enough to email
  • —Lightening a batch of voice files for archiving
  • —Meeting an upload size limit

Good to know

  • —Compression is not reversible; raising the bitrate later does not restore lost quality, so keep the original.
  • —Speech holds up around 64 kbps, but music degrades noticeably at that rate.
  • —Recompressing an already compressed file stacks the losses and sounds worse.
